Festival Jazz Barcelona: Maria Schneider & Clasijazz Big Band

There is no orchestra in the world like Maria Schneider’s. No one else creates music as beautiful and moving as the compositions written by the Windom, Minnesota-born composer, whose career our festival has followed with a stubborn devotion wrapped in endless admiration. For Maria Schneider, working her music with orchestras other than her own has never been an easy task… until Clasijazz and Pablo Mazuecos arrived from Almería, placing at her disposal an all-star ensemble of Iberian jazz musicians — and absolute magic happened.

After their concert at our festival two years ago, Maria once again took the Clasijazz Big Band under her vast and welcoming wing for a tour that will bring them to major European summer festivals before concluding at ours, at the artists’ own request. Under the title “Bulería, Soleá y Rumba” — one of the composer’s signature works — the tour reunites Schneider with the Clasijazz Big Band, now joined by a very special guest: another unstoppable talent, saxophonist and singer Antonio Lizana.

How lucky we are in Barcelona, truly, to have welcomed Maria Schneider so many times.
