Festival Jazz Barcelona: Ron Carter

The jazz gods give us another opportunity to hear the double bass of Ron Carter, who had to cancel his European tour last year. We said then, quoting ourselves, that “the adjective ‘jazz legend’ is rarely used with as much justice as when it is attributed to Ron Carter, member of the historic Miles Davis quintet between 1963 and 1968 (and co-star, therefore, of that mythical concert at the Palau in 1967, in the second edition of our festival, by the band Miles… without Miles) and the Guinness Prize for double bassist with the most recordings: 2,221 in 2015 (the number has increased, of course).
Carter is one of the most influential jazzmen in the history of jazz and his impressive resume, in addition to his famous adventures with Davis, includes recordings with Antônio Carlos Jobim, Chet Baker, George Benson, Eric Dolphy, Horace Silver, Milt Jackson and Quincy Jones , but also with James Brown, Paul Simon and Aretha Franklin. What more can be said about one of the last greats of jazz? Ron Carter returns to Barcelona, on a tour that, perhaps, now, is the last one he does in Europe. Time, then, to say goodbye to a giant at the helm of his exquisite Foursight project.
