Joep Beving

Based in Amsterdam, Joep Beving describes his work as simple music for complex emotions. And that is exactly what it is. His minimalist, emotional and vulnerable compositions for solo piano convey a genuine sense of calm that contrasts with the imposing presence of their creator —over two metres tall, with long hair and a beard, as if he were a direct descendant of the Viking Ragnar Lothbrok— and have turned Beving into a global phenomenon. His is an unadorned form of neoclassicism that has even been sought out for television, film and advertising. Perhaps because, as he explains, he takes a pop approach to both composition and performance.
