Mas i Mas Festival: Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, Ben Street & Jeff Ballard

After twenty editions of Mas y Mas Festival, a successful event that, with 2,500 activities in two decades, animated the Barcelona billboard in August, Mas y Mas now faces the challenge of turning the Festival into a six-month season (from May to October), with 24 concerts and a lineup of national and international figures.

Four of the best contemporary jazz artists form a supergroup where virtuosity and good taste, modernity with tradition and an attitude that is as versatile as it is natural come together. Travel companions, separately they have created a school and have influenced musicians of various generations and origins. This is the case of guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel, with a characteristic, vibrant and recognizable sound from the first note. In his extensive career, he has signed emblematic works and has collaborated with personalities of the stature of Paul Motian and Joe Henderson. For his part, saxophonist Mark Turner also has a unique, singular style, which has led him to sign albums on the ECM label, among other merits. As for Ben Street, he has been double bassist for Andrew Cyrille, Billy Hart and many others. Finally, Jeff Ballard, reference drummer, is currently part of Brad Mehldau’s trio. Together, they coincided in recordings such as ‘Heartcore’ (2003), by Kurt Rosenwinkel. They have also visited Barcelona a lot of times, especially in their beginnings, at the Jamboree and, in some cases, signing their first works for the Fresh Sound label. Without a doubt, we are facing one of the most outstanding performances of Mas i Mas 2024.
