Piñata Music Series: Azymuth – 50th Anniversary Tour

They have the aura of pioneers and the craftsmanship of masters. Azymuth is a legend of Brazilian popular music for half a century now, even though guitarist Alex Malheiros is now the only surviving member of the original lineup, following the passing of percussionist Ivan “Mamão” in April 2023 (this tour is dedicated to his memory) and keyboardist José Roberto Bertrami in 2012, who was then replaced by Kiko Continentino. Their highly unique blend of jazz, funk, samba, electronica, and Brazilian popular music serves as a reference for thousands of musicians worldwide. They describe their style as Samba Doido (Crazy Samba) and have captured it in around thirty albums released continuously since 1973. These fifty years are what motivates this tour. During this time, they have had the opportunity to collaborate, together or separately, with rapper Madlib or bossa nova master Marcos Valle, and be remixed by Jazzanova, Theo Parrish, 4 Hero, and Ashley Beedle. In other words, they have been remixed by the leading figures of the most elegant downtempo electronic scene of recent decades.
