Piñata Music Series: Mayra Andrade

Mayra Andrade, from Cape Verde, has the cosmopolitan nomadism deeply ingrained in her mind. And that is evident in her intoxicating proposal, which draws from tropicalism, afrobeat, jazz, and other world music genres. She holds Caetano Veloso and Cesária Évora in high esteem. She was raised in Cuba (where she was born), Senegal, Angola, and Germany, and currently resides between Paris and Lisbon. Being a self-taught artist, she has collaborated with Jacques Morelenbaum and recorded with producers like Alé Siqueira, renowned for his work with Tom Zé, Marisa Monte, and Caetano Veloso himself. Her latest album to date is the delightful “Manga” (2019).
